Dr. Stephen Chu, Former Secretary of Energy – Energy and Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities

Dr. Stephen Chu, Former Secretary of Energy and Nobel Laureate, joined Berkeley-Haas as a guest in our Dean’s Speaker Series. Drawing from his own experiences in high profile leadership positions with Bell Laboratories, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and as US Secretary of Energy, Dr. Chu spoke on Energy and Climate Change: Challenges and Opportunities. Dr. Chu has been a vocal advocate for more research into renewable energy and nuclear power, arguing that a shift away from fossil fuels is essential to combating climate change.

Dr. Chu served as US Secretary of Energy from 2009-2013, and was the first scientist to hold a Cabinet position. Prior to his appointment, he served as director of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and as a professor of Physics, Molecular and Cell Biology, at UC Berkeley.
